A Good Read

A friend recently gave me a wonderful book to read, Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo.  It is the story of his young four-year-old son's visit to Heaven after a ruptured appendix.  The book was filled with all kinds of tidbits that brought me an extra bit of comfort.  One message the little boy makes sure he gets across is that Jesus really loves children.  At one point he told his family names of some of the other children he met during his brief visit and also revealed that he had met his sister (lost to a miscarriage) and a Grandfather he had never met.  I could go on about all the things I found fascinating in this book, but instead will say, read it if you get a chance.  It can be very eye-opening.

National Crime Victims Awareness

Last week was National Crime Victims Awareness Week and along with the tree planting and speech there, I was asked to speak at the Treatment Center to the offenders as a whole.  So Friday I told my story to over 500 offenders and staff.  I do believe this is the largest crowd I have spoken to at one time about the accident.  My speech followed two offenders who shared their stories about their crimes and the victims they created.  I was amazed as one spoke of meeting his victim face to face later and being given forgiveness for his crime.  I could tell our story was touching some as they wiped their eyes along with me.  They were also gracious enough to give me a standing ovation when I was finished and several thanked me for telling my story.  If it changes even one of them, it is worth it  and it does make me proud that Abby can continue to touch lives.

Shows To Watch

April is National Donate Life Month and tomorrow (April 19th) there will be two programs on donation airing.

ESPN will be airing HERO, the story of Paco Rodriquez, a former boxer who always dreamed of being a hero.  Paco died following a bout in November 2009.  He was a hero to his family and the decision was made to donate his organs.  This story looks at the family he left behind and the five recipients that our their lives to Rodriquez, their hero. This will air at 7 pm.  Here is a link to a short preview.

Oprah will also be airing a show about Charles Tillman of the Chicago Bears and his daughter's donor family.
